Sunday November 8, 2009 - It was a new
day for the people of Bad River as our new
tribal council elect were sworn into office
Sunday morning. After the ceremony and a
few words spoken in our native tongue by
tribal elder Bob Powless, tribal members
celebrated with song and drum followed by
a Sunday brunch with all the fixings. As I
looked around the room I noticed
something I hadn't seen in quite some time,
the room was lit with the smiles and
laughter of our people. United as one
nation we celebrated the dawning of a new
day. With a newfound hope in my heart, I
reflected upon the struggles and sacrifices
of our people. I couldn't help but feel a
sense of community pride. We are a
resilient people and we are survivors. As
we take our first step as a nation into this
new day, let us hold our heads high and let
the healing begin, for we are warriors and
    we have testified.
