Due to lack of transparency, there is no ACCOUNTABILITY. If we don't know
what they're doing, they don't have to answer for their actions! Such has been
the case with the Beloit Casino Project. After many public hearings and
meetings for the residents of Beloit, over 6,000 voters in the Beloit area were
allowed a referendum vote on the Beloit Casino Project. All of this at our
expense and our elected deny the same for Bad River Tribal Members! Elected
officials have yet to inform us about the Beloit Project. Have you read the Inter-
Governmental Agreement? In who's best interest was this agreement made?
Most certainly it wasn't in the best interest of this tribe! Upon careful review,
note that the tribe would purchase only 26 acres of the land from the developer,
Kurt Carlson. Carlson would own the surrounding 32 acres that the tribes agree
to pay for construction of a water park, antique car museum, hotels & various
shops & eateries. Carlson owns the construction company that the tribes agree
to pay for constructing all of his ancillary buildings. Adding insult to injury, the
tribes also agree to pay the property taxes for Carlson! Imagine an Indian paying
property taxes for a White man! Of the 3,000 jobs that the casino is estimated to
generate, how many would benefit our own? Take a look at the huge amounts
we would be paying to the city of Beloit, Rock County, not to mention the loan to
pay for the casino & all ancillary construction & charitable contributions. Our
elected Leaders have waived sovereign immunity, placing our current assets,
all tribal revenue & our tribal lands at great risk. Is this SOUND JUDGEMENT? I
thought we have tribal attorneys hired to look out for the Tribe's best interests.
Where are they when elected officials are making these agreements?
