The Tribal Legal Department works for the corrupt Council Members, not on behalf
of the Tribe. This legal Department has created & advised policies that infringe
upon the Constitutional Rights of Band Members. Countless violations of all Tribal
Policies and Procedures, the Constitution & Charter have occurred & has been
increasing at an alarming rate. Tribal members Rights are virtually non-existent
largely because of the Legal Department's personal & misinterpretations of our
Constitution & the development of ordinances that restrict our Constitutional
Rights as Band members & grants unrestricted powers to the council without any
accountability. Tribal legal review included encumbrances of Tribal lands,
detrimental intergovernmental agreements, detrimental contractual agreements,
unlawful & wrongful terminations. The Tribe's legal counsel was established "for
the protection and advancement of the rights of the Band and its Members." Tribal
legal counsel has also become politically involved. Her presence was noted at the
illegal recall hearing on February 2, 2008. She was seen with the Bigboy family ,
undoubtedly offering "legal" advice. She had no other reason to be at the hearing
as her contract was not renewed and she was not an employee nor is she a Tribal
Member of Bad River. After the illegal proceedings of that recall hearing, Susan
Aasen had a contract & was named as "Head Of The Legal Department." Her
participation in the creation of the "Declaration of State of Emergency" & legal
opinions stalling & preventing the redress of grievances by Tribal Members
illustrates her commitment to protect corrupt Council Members.
